Review: Girl’s Day–“Don’t Let Your Eyes Wander”

Don’t let your eyes wander from Girl’s Day!

Did you like the song?
I absolutely adore this song. It’s catchy, fast-paced, sweet, and has a message that boyfriends should only look at their girlfriends and be good to them (or they’ll leave!).

What was your favorite part of the song?
What a great chorus, seriously (starting at 0:53), especially the “su isseo” ending. And I liked the two middle sections that broke up the song nicely.

Girl's Day Don't Let Your Eyes Wander members

Yura, Hyeri, Minah, Jihae, and Sojin

Does the English make you want to rip your eardrums out?
The English is pretty typically horrible and randomly scattered throughout. (The first word is “Stupid!” And I’m sorry, Yura, but that pronunciation is not good.) Plus later we get such gems as “What you gonna, baby? Wanna let me let me go” (1:23) and “Love is fantasy” (2:19). The worst part of the song in my opinion is Yura’s “Boy, give it up” (2:48).

THAT SAID, not kidding, guys, I teared up when the song changed to “I love you” (3:06). Really nice celebratory line there, and the pronunciation was great.

Did you like the video?
I really did enjoy the video. The girls looked so happy and excited to be “directing” their own video, and happiness like that is infectious.

Girl's Day

Yura, Minah, Sojin, Hyeri, and Jihae look so surprised.

Was there a storyline? If so, did it make sense?
The girls get a chance to direct their own video! Then the music video takes us through them recording and playing with cameras and shining light in each other’s faces. It’s funny, especially the Behind the Scenes at the end. I cracked up when they showed how dejected the other directors looked.

Girl’s Day directors

Yeah, we don’t believe it, either.

Was the dance cool and distinctive?
I don’t think there was a dance.

Jihae

Jihae directing like a boss.

Do the members look good?
HELL YES. They all look gorgeous; I had a hard time picking a bias and an insanely hard time picking which one stood out the most. This is a group where everyone is really lovely and seems like a kind person. I finally picked Hyeri as the one I found the prettiest, but I definitely think all the members look great.

Hyeri

The maknae is so pretty!

Which member stood out the most?
This was really difficult for me, as they were all really cute and basically had equal screentime. Hyeri is so good-looking, Jihae is fun in the director’s chair with her megaphone, Yura and her pigtails are cute, and Sojin is very compelling with an awesome hairstyle here. However, it’s hard to give it to anyone but Minah, since her antics were a big focus of the MV. She seems to have been picked as the adorable but clueless one.

Minah

Minah wants Chip and Dale to get it on.

Do you like it enough to buy the song?
Oh yes. The song is superb.

Any ending thoughts?
I wasn’t very familiar with Girl’s Day before this, as I didn’t pay too much attention to Nothing Lasts Forever, Twinkle Twinkle, or Hug Me Once when they came out. Clearly those songs deserve another look.

Boyfriend’s one-liner:
“I think that was a failed attempt at meta, but at least we know that a banana cannon is a girl’s best friend.”

Girl's Day Yura

Yura snuggles the banana cannon.

  1. This song's review was originally how I stumbled across your site, but I found myself wasting countless hours today reading all of your very well written entertaining reviews (and bursting into laughter intermittently).

Anyways, this was the first Girl's Day song I've ever listened to as well, from which I then proceeded to listen to Twinkle Twinkle, Nothing Lasts Forever, Hug Me Once, etc.  Leaving me at the conclusion that this is the best one out of all of them.  This song is so ridiculously infectious and like you said, their excitement grows on you as the video progresses.  What gets me each time (in a good way) is when Sojin says "maldo andwae" in the beginning and basically every other mannerism she does in this video, from the eyelash lifting movement to the part where she fake kisses Minah and they both crack up in laughter.  Plus, I can't help but be reminded of IU when I see Minah in this video and her "pabbo ya" crazy hand motion is ridiculously cute.  As for the other members, they all look great too but slightly less memorable for me, although Yura's banana cannon was quite entertaining.  I'd say Jihae got the least amount of time, but she's also my least favorite out of Girl's Day so I'm not complaining too much. And lastly, the English made me cringe too but that's kind of what I expected I guess, and THE BEST PART REALLY IS THE I LOVE YOU, YOU LOVE ME,  section at the end.  Goodness, replay over.  That being said, I've probably contributed to about 100 views of the total on that YouTube video. Love all of your reviews, keep up the good work. (I also vote reviewing another Girl's Day song).

  2. Oh, wow, thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so glad you're enjoying the reviews. <3

I totally love Sojin here. She is gorgeous, first of all, and her mannerisms are absolutely hilarious. And Minah reminds you of IU! Awesome! I will have to look out for that next time I watch this.

I'm not kidding, every time--EVERY time--I listen to this song, I feel so happy that I start tearing up at the "I love you" line. And I don't consider myself a particularly emotional person. There's just something about that line in this song. They're just...so in love. *happy sigh*

Have Girl's Day released a music video after this song? If so, I hadn't heard of it, but I will definitely review their next MV! :)
