Review: N.Sonic–“Super Boy”

The second half of N.Sonic’s debut music video is like porn.

Did you like the song?
Like MYNAME, N.Sonic is a five-member rookie group debuting this year. “Super Boy” is a pretty good song, not bad for a debut. I appreciate the lack of autotune, and the underlying beat is super-catchy, too. However, it could have showcased their voices better, and it was missing the big climactic moment that I like in songs where the lead singer gets to have a high note and show off a little.

Byeol, Jonguk, J.Heart, Eunho, and Black J.

What was your favorite part of the song?
I like the falsetto “Take me, take me, oh oh” line.

Eunho, Byeol, Jonguk, J.Heart, and Black J.

Does the English make you want to rip your eardrums out?
Ahaha, this song has some of the most random English lyrics ever! I’m tempted to just reprint the whole thing, but I’ll restrain myself to describing N.Sonic’s apparent day, which they just can’t seem to pick an adjective for: is it a Party Day, a Bling Day (…what is that, even?), a Funny Day, a Sunny Day, a Good Day, a Lucky Day, or all of the above? Whatever, they also told me, “Yes, take my energy,” so I guess I’ll be off doing that.

Did you like the video?
No joke, this music video is like watching porn. Sure, they start off clothed and everything, but halfway through it starts raining, and they all rip off their shirts and dance in the rain. Now I’m no expert, but isn’t that more something that we like K-idols to do once we know the group and their personalities a bit better? This early in the relationship is a bit forward, and the result is more awkward than sexy, like watching traditional porn. Whom are you catering to, N.Sonic? Because this woman likes her porn to have a slow buildup of characters and personality, not just faceless naked bodies.

Whoa, how did this happen? I guess aliens took our clothes.

Was there a storyline? If so, did it make sense?
I will describe to you the entire plotline for this music video: five guys are dancing in an abandoned—and probably dangerous, considering the amounts of steam—warehouse. Then they set off the sprinkler system but keep dancing in what is probably heavily-polluted industrial sewage. The End.

It’s okay, ladies. This sort of thing happens to us all the time.

Was the dance cool and distinctive?
Despite watching it repeatedly, I have trouble remembering any of the moves. This might be because I was distracted by nakedness, or it might be that the moves are cool but not particularly distinctive. That one move towards the end looks like they have some kind of tick or twitching disorder, though. :/

Do the members look good?
Yup! They look good and also fairly distinctive, which is nice. But doesn’t Black J know you only get chest/forearm tattoos after you’re super famous (like Jay Park, JYJ’s Jaejoong, or JYJ’s Yoochun)? What happens if this whole idol thing doesn’t work out and you have to get a non-performing job? He also might want to consider a new stage name, but that’s another matter.

Which member stood out the most?
There’s no way I can give this to anyone other than Black J’s chest tattoo Jonguk. Daaaaamn. Sexy lip wipes are meant to mop up drool, right? I’ll just be over here doing that, then…But I really like Black J and Eunho, too.

N.Sonic Jonguk looks like Jaejoong

Jonguk, who has a Jaejoong thing going in some selcas. Woot!

Do you like it enough to buy the song?
I don’t think so. For a while I thought I might, but then the song got kind of boring.

Any ending thoughts?
So while there were some issues with this debut, it wasn’t bad by any means. And I’m going to welcome any good-looking 5-member male group with open arms, even if their name reminds me of *NSYNC. :)

Also, this is what I expected when I saw a song called “Super Boy” by N.Sonic:

N.Sonic Superboy Sonic the Hedgehog

I support all K-pop bands with my name in them! :DDD

Boyfriend’s one-liner:
“In a song called ‘Super Boy,’ they go shirtless but don’t even rip their shirts open like Superman?”

  1. I'm kinda sad their debut didn't get more coverage; I don't see anyone ever really talking about them...maybe a comeback with help them. Great and funny review, as usual! And on the name thing....did you know they actually performed N'Sync's "Bye Bye Bye"?

That is so entertaining! (I love that song, too.)

Yeah, it's definitely starting to see like N.Sonic's debut was kind of ignored. But hopefully they'll get more attention with their next song. Thanks for your comments. They really brighten my day! :D
