Review: JYJ–“Get Out”

JYJ are back with a sexy new song.

Did you like the song?
Yay for the second JYJ video in as many days! Okay, not going to lie, when this MV started, I was very worried it would be another ballad. Don’t get me wrong, JYJ does ballads well, but I personally prefer their upbeat songs. I was seriously crossing my fingers that it would pick up the tempo…and it did. Heck yes! This is what I’m talking about, JYJ.

What was your favorite part of the song?
I enjoyed a lot of little parts in this song, mainly Junsu’s: I liked his repetition of “anya, anya” (“no, no”), and how he hangs on that ending word “kkeojyeoboryeo” in the middle of the chorus (just before Jaejoong sings, “Modu da bye bye…”). Also that awesome key change.

Does the English make you want to rip your eardrums out?
Wait, what? Did Yoochun just tell that girl, “You’re never gonna find true love. F*** you”? Wow. I’m not saying she doesn’t deserve it, Yoochun, but wow!

That said, JYJ, whyyy? Ayyy, boys. You must have a million people to fix your English for you. Please make use of them. Here’s the roll call, and I’m pretty sure Jaejoong is the lead offender: “Oh baby tell me why you act so strange / but tonight I don’t need a damn explain,” “feels like I’m ready / no love I’m done with […what?].” Also, and this is extremely picky, but “bye bye” is such a…juvenile thing to say. I don’t mean it’s offensive, but it’s something a young child might say. It’s certainly not something three smokin’ hot guys would tell to the girl they’re dumping for cheating on them. Like I said, it’s extremely picky, especially as many other native speakers like NSYNC have done the same thing, but I had to mention it, especially as they keep repeating it like a broken record in that section towards the end.

Did you like the video?
Loved the video. Basically, get JYJ on a plain white background or in an alley, and no one will complain, ever.

JYJ Get Out

Junsu, Jaejoong, and Yoochun.

Was there a storyline? If so, did it make sense?
Interpretation #1: So there’s this girl who’s dating all of JYJ at once and is also cheating on them. Interpretation rejected because I think everyone can agree that’s quite out of the realm of possibility. If you were dating all of JYJ, you would never cheat on them.

Interpretation #2: JYJ have melded into one body and all three share that to date this girl who is so utterly confused that she jumps into the arms of the next guy who comes along. Interpretation also rejected because how would JYJ film their various dramas and musicals (not to mention the dance scenes) if they fused into one body?

Interpretation #3: The girl is supposed to be a representation of how each of them separately feels betrayed by a cheating lover. Interpretation rejected because, again, who would cheat on JYJ?

Was the dance cool and distinctive?
The dance flows very nicely. It’s occasionally a bit ballerina-ish (for example, one of the ending poses), but, yeah, these guys could pull off anything. I really loved the “bye bye” move in particular.

JYJ Get Out dance

So much better than *NSYNC’s dance.

Do the members look good?
With apologies for all the gifs...JYJ look so good! Yoochun looks, and there is no other word for it, like a badass. When he was walking down that corridor saying, “You kissed my girl,” I seriously feared for my life.

Yoochun badass Get Out corridor

I will never kiss your girl, Yoochun.

Junsu pretty much always looks the same: classily sexy. Few people look better in a suit than him. (However, I can’t say I approve that he is back to his man-apron-wearing ways.)

JYJ Ayyy Girl Junsu man apron

There was one thing we learned from “Ayyy Girl”: never again.

And yet...well, at least it's more a smock than an apron this time.

Junsu Get Out man apron

I thought we had already spoken about this, Junsu.

Which member stood out the most?
Maybe it’s because his eyeliner is heavier than the others’. Maybe it’s because he gets to wear maroon, which always sticks out. Maybe it’s because he’s always frequently in the middle. Maybe it’s because he wears a freakin’ sparkly shirt later. Maybe it’s because they put him behind a chainlink fence, which I personally find to be one of the hottest things imaginable. And that’s not even mentioning his voice. When it comes down to it, really, could anyone else stand out more than Jaejoong?

Jaejoong Get Out chainlink fence

Not technically jailbait.

Do you like it enough to buy the song?
Yup. I fully support JYJ making these kinds of songs.

Any ending thoughts?
Something like this from JYJ was really what I had been hoping for. I was wrong to doubt them or think that In Heaven was the only music video they would produce this month. I hope they get a lot of love from fans.

Boyfriend’s one-liner:
“They look like hopscotching vampires.” (I may punch my boyfriend one of these days...)

  2. Haha, no need to hide, I'm a fan of both! :) Hmmm, I'm not sure which choreo I like better. I think JYJ's is more distinctive, but HoMin's is definitely cleaner. I've been delaying reviewing "B.U.T." because I can't seem to find a high-quality Youtube vid of it that isn't watermarked, but I think I'll just go with one of the watermarked versions. Bad AVEX!
