2PM seriously needs to get some actual furniture in their “ultra lover” apartment building.
Did you like the song?
First of all, I would really like to embed an “official” version of this MV without all the irritating watermarks, so if you can find it, please send me a link! Thanks.
Secondly, this song is pretty cute. Now “cute” is not normally a concept I’d associate with 2PM—I’d usually call them manly or edgy or badass or classy or gangsta—so I don’t really think the song completely suits them. But it’s not bad or anything, it’s just not what I’m used to.
What was your favorite part of the song?
I like Junho and Junsu’s cool buildup to the final chorus.
Does the English make you want to rip your eardrums out?
Nope—2PM’s usually very confident in their English (as they are in everything), and it sounds good (especially the “loving you” part)…with a couple of exceptions. The main thing I don’t like is their pronunciation of “ultra” as “oool-trah” when it should be more “uhl-trah.” That explanation looks dumb, but what I mean is the “U” instead of “O” sound. Hmm, oh look, people have made mp3s of what I’m getting at. Sweet. So 2PM sound more Italian than English.
Did you like the video?
It’s all right. On one hand, the concept of 2PM all living together in this little apartment together and dancing on the roof really appeals to my little fangirl heart. I mean, they’re like a little family visiting each other’s rooms! It’s so cute!
But on the other hand…it looks kind of seedy. And their apartments hardly have any furnishings and look pretty uncomfortable and have wide open sides. And there’s a sign that says “Ultra Lover” on the roof. So what does that say to you? I mean, I’ll admit I have a pretty dirty mind, but are the directors just kind of provoking me here? Because to me it says “brothel.”
And seriously, the second-to-last place I want my boys to be is in a brothel, and the absolute last place I want them is as the “entertainment” of a brothel. So what am I supposed to think about this little setup? :/
Was there a storyline? If so, did it make sense?
Yeah, I don’t want to talk about brothels anymore. 2PM’s in an apartment and they dance. All their rooms have different items. Do they relate to their personalities in some way? I’m not sure.
- Wooyoung has this huge old-timey clock thing and books.
- Nichkhun has a kind of classy room with a brass chandelier and desk with leather chair.
- Junho, I kid you not, has a room full of empty shelves with a golden bathtub and trash can or Snitch or something like that.
- Junsu has a piano and some Grecian pillars.
- Chansung has, as far as I can tell, a room full of speakers/subwoofers. (He and BIGBANG’s Taeyang must have hooked up.)
- Taecyeon has a room with nothing in it but a chandelier, a chair, and a spiral staircase.
Was the dance cool and distinctive?
And again I’m kind of let down here. It had the cool air jumps that 2PM always make look effortless, as well as some cute 2PM moments like the synchronized feet crossing at the end and this little wave:
But the main dance move seemed to be something like:
I guess they meant for it to be this way, but it seemed kind of lackluster, like they weren’t trying to be crisp and impressive, kind of the opposite of “I’m Your Man.”
Do the members look good?
Excellent in their cocktail suits, as always. It seemed like Junsu and Junho got the most screentime, which if I’m not mistaken is kind of unusual for 2PM, but the rest was split pretty evenly among the other four, so that’s fine.
Which member stood out the most?
I’m going to have to give this to Junho, actually, with Junsu coming in at second, which is weird because usually either Nichkhun or Taecyeon steals the show for me. But good for him!
Do you like it enough to buy the song?
Not this time, boys. Sorry! It’s too far from your main style for me.
Any ending thoughts?
I’m still a new fan of 2PM, so I don’t know too much about the boys’ personalities, though I’ve seen most of their MVs. I think I like the up-tempo songs where they’re rapping the best, like “10 Out of 10” or “Hands Up.”
Boyfriend’s one-liner:
“WTF is Ultra Lover? It sounds like a condom brand.”
Thanks to the Hottests who wanted me to review 2PM. Please share your thoughts on this MV below! :)
This is their Japanese release, and Japanese agencies don't know it's 21st century yet. At least they don't believe in Youtube. So I doubt you'll find it on an official channel.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, I loved it that Junho got more solo lines and screen time 'cos honestly, he's their second best singer and best dancer. He deserves it. Although I do like them all. They are my most loved k-pop group :)
The song itself is nothing to write home about 'cos it resembles "Tired of waiting" and, erm, forgot the title, another early-ish song of theirs.
I LOL'd at the part of the review where you talk about rooms :)
Haha, their rooms are so empty! They don't even have beds (unless they sleep in the bathtub).
ReplyDeleteI'm still a relatively new 2PM fan, but I have two friends who are huge fans of theirs, so they helped me get to know the group. Junho's definitely my favorite at the moment. He seems so sweet! I feel like the others may tend to get more attention than him in general (not in this MV). But that's just my initial impression. I need to watch some of their variety shows, because I have no clue at all as to their personalities, and I would like to learn more about them! :)
Do watch Hot Blood (the other version of the title is Hot-blooded Guys). It's about them pre-debut, together with 2AM. And recently they did 2PM Show. Was amusing but not outstanding. But fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteJunho, as he himself, admits, has confidence issues, so he does tend to get overlooked. But he's my fave in the group.
Speaking of sleeping in the tub, MBLAQ's Joon did, when they filmed Sesame Player, and it got filmed. Was very funny.
Did Joon sleep for real in the tub? Wow, that's hilarious. I keep thinking of Leeteuk sleeping in random places because he was so tired. Poor idols, always exhausted...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "Hot Blood" and "2PM Show" recs! I'll check them out! :D
P.S. I'm listening to Simon D's "Hero," and wow! His rapping is so fast! *impressed*
You know, he did sleep there for real. He just grabbed bedclothes, a pillow and a blanket and went to hide in the bathroom. And slept in the tub. Was awfully cute.
ReplyDeleteRe Simon: he's not up to Outsider's standards yet :)
